What Are the Effects of CBD on Blood Pressure?

High blood pressure - also called hypertension - is a serious health issue for many people around the world. Here at home, about one third of Americans age 20+ have a blood pressure level that is higher than what is considered normal. The older the individual, the higher the chances of hypertension.

In addition to stress, there are medical conditions that can be the cause of high blood pressure, including metabolic syndrome, kidney disease, and thyroid problems. Some medical issues are caused by high blood pressure, such as heart disease, stroke, heart attack, kidney disease, and is linked to having poorer cognitive function and dementia later in life.

Many medical specialists are looking at CBD and its effects on blood pressure. In fact, a recent study reported that “a single dose of CBD reduces resting blood pressure and the blood pressure response to stress…[and that t]his may reflect the anxiolytic and analgesic effects of CBD, as well as any potential direct cardiovascular effects.”

What are ways to lower hypertension - naturally?

In addition to regular exercise and reducing overall stress, your diet has a major effect on your blood pressure. If you want to lower your blood pressure naturally then a reduction of salt intake, alcohol and tobacco will certainly help, as well as consumption of additional fruits and vegetables.

Why is naturally a better way to go? Because many medications prescribed to lower blood pressure have side effects, including headaches, dizziness, constipation and swollen ankles.

New evidence has found a link between CBD and a decrease in blood pressure, all while having fewer side effects than prescription medications. You see, research shows that CBD oil possibly reduces inflammation in the heart and blood vessels in the brain, meaning that CBD oil’s anti-inflammatory properties may lower blood pressure by allowing the free flow of blood throughout the body.

There is much more research to be done on CBD overall, but as the results come to light, it is starting to appear like there is nothing CBD can’t do!

How should I dose CBD oil?

If you’re using CBD oil for treating high blood pressure, full-spectrum CBD oil is recommended because it is more potent than highly concentrated hemp extract. Also, oil has higher absorption and works faster than, say, gummies.

Always consult your doctor before trying any new treatment, whether it be for hypertension or fibromyalgia or anything in between. Many health professionals will tell you to start slow and build up dosage gradually to see how CBD affects you.

For example, if you have a 1000mg bottle of full-spectrum CBD oil, you might want to start with half of a dropper, which is about 17mg of CBD. As you monitor your blood pressure and other effects, you can gradually work your way up to a full dropper, which would be about 30mg of CBD.

Depending on height, weight, and general overall health, most folks find doses of 20-100mg of full-spectrum CBD oil seem to fit the bill.

When you are choosing a CBD oil that is right for you, please remember, Reward CBD is made in the USA. Not China. Why is this so important? First, there is a huge lack of transparency when it comes to CBD’s origin and its test results when the product is from China. And second, the cultivation environment is so important because of hemp’s properties of absorbing contaminants from the soil while the plant grows. So if the soil is not clean - and instead has high levels of lead, mercury or other heavy metals - then that plant could have high levels of toxicity.

Be sure you know where your CBD is coming from, or you might not be purchasing a high-quality, safe, effective product. That's all we have at Reward; you can count on our quality, as outlined by the FDA Farm Bill.
